Amy Antoinette Competition Entry

Hello! This is my entry for Amy Antoinette's Next Competition, hope you enjoy! Apologies for some of the pictures being fuzzy - photoshop wasn't working so I had to use Paint. I've also added in some hair and make-up suggestions in case anyone wants to re-create this look and is wondering about what make up to do, and how to style their hair to compliment the Next outfit.
Thankyou! xo

Scenario 1)

It's a chilly winter's day, and you've been asked out by some of your friends who are going to the cinema. You want to look casual, but also dress to impress, because you know someone you like is going. Below is my outfit choice.

Not only is this outfit quite cosy in winter months, you could keep adding layers to it to make it warmer (e.g. whip on a grey trenchcoat or add in a comfy, wooly scarf). It's also, whilst being quite casual, extremely on-trend, and the use of knee-high socks lengthens the look of the legs, despite you wearing flat shoes. Personally I would wear this outfit for any kind of casual event, so it's extremely fitting for a situation like this.

Make Up Choices
* These aren't Next products but I thought that they would really compliment the outfit. *
For this outfit you'd want a smoky-eyed look, to complete the whole grungey feel, but a more natural look on the rest of your face to really make your eyes pop. I would suggest these products -

Max Factor Eye Brightening Mascara - http://www.boots.com/en/Max-Factor-Eye-Brightening-Mascara-for-Brown-eyes_1265799/ (I have brown eyes so this is my shade, but they have variations for different eye colours
And a quite matte, nude lipstick or lip gloss, such as the collection 2000 cream puff lip cream - http://www.boots.com/en/Collection-2000-Cream-Puff-Lip-Cream_1222512/

Hair Choices -
I would suggest to have your hair up if you were going with this look, in a messy bun to tie in with that grungey look. If you had your hair down I would suggest giving it lots of texture with a volumising spray, curling parts of it to create that messy down look.

Scenario 2)

You've been asked to a winter wedding. The bride wants everyone to wear white, unconventionally, because it's going to be in a snowy setting, and the theme is 'Winter Wonderland'. You want to look good, but not take away too much from the bride herself. Below is my outfit choice.

Personally, I love this outfit for a winter occasion. Not only is it classy, it's also extremely sophisticated, and, most importantly, warm! I love the colour scheme of maroon and white, especially with the lacy look to the dress. Alternatively, you could wear a navy dress and those gorgeous black heels, it's your choice!

Make Up Choices -
* These aren't Next products but I thought that they would really compliment the outfit. *
Personally, I would wear quite nude colours on the face generally, with nude tone eye shadows, perhaps with a lighter shade in the tear duct. I would pair this with a really bright lip colour to tie in with the maroon. Here are a few make-up products I would suggest;
A No7 primer to keep all that make up on - http://www.boots.com/en/17-Photo-Flawless-Primer_1155344/
Collection 2000 Blush - http://www.boots.com/en/Collection-2000-Blush_984138/ this is the most gorgeous blush if you haven't tried it yet, I thoroughly recommend trying it out.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick - http://www.boots.com/en/Rimmel-Lasting-Finish-Lip-Stick_1133045/ in Tantrum or Firecracker to finish the outfit

Hair Suggestion
I would suggest, again, hair up here, in a really neat bun or pony tail. This will complete the sophisticated and classy look, especially due to the fact that all of your hair is pulled off your face, giving focus on your bright lip colour.

Scenario 3)

You work in the fashion industry, and tomorrow is a big day - you have an interview with a higher power for a promotion, and you need to look fierce! Your current boss tips you that they're looking for someone who understands the current trends, and suggests that you wear something reflective of this. Below is my outfit choice.

I am absolutely in love with the over-sizing trend currently, and this classy, quite dulled down colour scheme is extremely sophisticated - perfect for an interview. It's also a warm outfit in these wintery months, which means you won't be too chilly on the way to work.

Make Up Choices -
* These aren't Next products but I thought that they would really compliment the outfit. *
In this kind of situation, I would advise quite neutral and nudey make-up to tie in with the oatmeal colour scheme. I would suggest making blushes more gold than red, and having a pale pink or light nude lip colour, as well as quite simple eye makeup. Here are a few make-up products that I would suggest -

Bare Minerals Natural Lipcolour - http://www.feelunique.com/p/Bare-Escentuals-BareMinerals-Natural-Lip-Colour?q=mac in Pink Champagne

Hair Choices
Personally, I think either hair up or down would look good with this outfit. If you chose hair down, I would suggest sweeping it behind the outfit (if long enough), making it look sleek and professional. If up, do a neat bun or ponytail, and hairspray heavily to avoid any flyaway ends.

Thankyou for reading my post, I hope you've enjoyed it! I have taken about 2 days straight to do this, so I hope you like it, and I'm a new blog, so this was a really lovely thing for me to do, and I've loved seeing how other people have styled the stock. :-)

Riot Loco Wishlist

So I've recently found this website - http://riotloco.com/, and I absolutely am in love with the stock! Not only is their stuff kind of grungey, which is a look I absolutely adore, but it is inexpensive and looks designer! Some of their stock, I have to admit, is likeable to an acquired taste, but the design of their stock, especially their shoes, is amazing.

My first item for my wishlist are these -

These heels, called Lucite Heels Oxford, look absolutely designer, and although the currency of the website is in SDP - singapore dollars, they ship internationally, and for these shoes, at 43.50 SDP, they convert as about £22. These shoes have a very niche design, however, and the perspex heels, as one of my friends pointed out, may make you look slightly silly, as if you're permanently walking on tip toe! They are insanely cool though - I especially love the cut out panel of the shoes making them mock peep toe - absolutely gorgeous.

I also love these shoes -

These are the 'Pastel Studded Mary Jane Shoes' and they would look absolutely gorgeous dressed up with a white skirt and sheer blouse, with a big chunky handbag and quite simplistic jewellery, or as a dressed down look, with skinny jeans, a pale pink blazer or top and a basic handbag. I love these so much, and at 30.50 SDP they convert at about £15.00, which is an absolute bargain!

My favourite pair of shoes however are these gorgeous chunky boots -

These 'Block Lace Heel Booties' would look amazing to make a dressy outfit more casual, or to complete an everyday grungey look! I absolutely love the design - the staggered lacing so that the laces cover the larger part of the boot makes them look extremely grunge, but also really, really stylish. I wouldn't be surprised to see celebrities wearing this brand's clothing - these convert at about £15 / £16 from 32.00 SDP. These are my favourites by far, because they would really go with anything, and are both practical and stylish!

Clothing wise, my favourite piece is this -

Currently, this is on sale, and I love it! With a contrasting powder pink and powder blue colour scheme, this could, again be both dressy and casual, depending on what you paired it with. This is 30.00 SDP - around £15 again, so a complete bargain.

My final item are these gorgeous sunglasses -

These are being sold in most highstreet stores at the moment, but I love RiotLoco's take on the cat-eye sunglasses look. They look really classy, and the thin frame makes the rims of the glasses even more prominent - absolutely gorgeous!

Aaah so many nice things, so little money!

Hope you liked this post, check out the rest of my blog if you did!

Drop Dead and Thunder Apparel Wishlist

Okay, so i'm currently in love with Drop Dead clothing, and an indie clothing brand called Thunder Apparel followed me on twitter and their stuff is sick! I have a wishlist here -

From Thunder Apparel

(From left to right) Thndr shirt in burgundy - £13.99, Tote Bag - £3.99, Arrows Sweatshirt - £16.99

I'm personally in love with the Thndr tee - really stylish and would look great dressed down with skinny jeans and a cosy scarf (sorry, winter mindset), or dressed up with a mini skirt, dark blazer and heels for a gathering.

Not only is their stuff affordable, but the designs are really great - I will be placing an order asap!

(From left to right) Dino Skirt - £30.00, 'Stare Devil' Dress - £25.00, Coat - £50.00

Just a quick post to say how much I love this stuff! I'm not really and indie kind of person, but these clothes are completely to die for

Over and out!

Style Crush #1 - Alexa Chung

Not only does Alexa Chung have impeccable style, she also has a great personality, and I absolutely love her as a presenter and model! She has been a trendsetter since she became famous, and has never failed to impress with her outlandish and ethereal looks.

(Above) Alexa in a grey lace dress with a floral print, with a crotchet style handbag and gold-coloured flat shoes, at the Foundry store launch in New York. I personally love this look - she looks extremely ethereal and elegant, and her smoky eye make up just finishes the look. I couldn't find a high-street equivalent of this, but it's absolutely gorgeous, and I'd love to design something along the lines of this dress.

(Above) Alexa in a grunge inspired outfit - she wears skinny jeans and a black coat from her Madewell collection, and a Isabel Marant sweater, for Stella McCartney's annual Christmas lights. Not only is this a flattering look, but it's almost an everyday outfit, and I've found some high street equivalents -

Matsita knitKimmy cardigan

For example, this coat (above left), £95 from Urban Outfitters, would look great with the underlayer of this jumper (above middle) from Monki at £25, or this cardigan (above right) from Monki at £35.

Finally, I also love this look from Alexa -

A mohair jumper paired with a prom skirt and a black clutch bag make this outfit both dressy and comfortable. I personally love this look - it looks amazing on her, especially with her slim figure, and I have researched high street options for this look -

Rare Two in One Prom Dress

(Above left) A black mohair sweater from Rare London reflects Alexa's look, but on a much less pricey level, for £36. Bank Fashion have also made a 'prom dress' skirt equivalent - you could wear the mohair sweater over the top of the dress to hide it, and I love the look of the skirt (above right), for £50.

Alexa I love you! Hope you've enjoyed this post, explore my blog for more,

Pull and Bear Wishlist

I'm guessing none of you know this, but I am absolutely obsessed with Pull and Bear products. My favourite winter pieces this year are as following -

This leather effect skirt is to die for - paired with a really over-sized knit, tights and chunky boots it would be my ideal outfit. Leather and camo are both really popular this season -
This camo jacket paired with some disco pants, or really just some black leggings would look really flattering, and you can dress up this camo look with some wedges, a plain black tube top and a black mini-skirt for a night out.
My favourite Pull and Bear piece this season, however, is this gorgeous knit -
Paired with a mini-skirt, tights and chunky boots it would be a really cosy outfit for work, or even just with black leggings it would look really great. I love the collar of it, but mostly I love the back -
If you can see it has a staggered back section to the jumper, which I really love - it gives it a really asymmetric look.

First proper post over! Yay over and out

Saturday 20 October 2012

Hello!

Hello! I'm Elfie, and my blog is going to be a mix of everything I love - fashion, art, hair, beauty, etc. I am currently doing A Levels, and hoping to do an art degree of some form. If you don't know me, I have a passion for fashion - I am obsessed with spotting trends, although my limited budget doesn't always mean I can follow them. So, I have decided to focus this blog mainly on trend-spotting, fashion and my own wardrobe as well as other things - I have a wide collection of make up which I have steadily trialed to blog about, and I'm extremely experimental with my hair, so I have hair products galore in my room! I also hope to do some DIY fashion, for example dip dying, and editing older clothes. So, hopefully, you'll see me as soon as possible!
Love from
Elfie xo
